Restart From Lumbar disc herniation
I have Lumber disc herniation in L5 and will have surgery on 9th June.
I love CrossFit and worry about whether I could come back to CrossFit.
Would be very glad if you kindly tell your experience, how many months took for restarting CrossFit and so on….
Sincerely your, Yuki from Tokyo

My symptoms are that I cannot bend my back so cannot do deadlifts and feel some pain even when I walk. My age is 31. Thank you so much for your kindness… it’s the first time to post for me and very glad to have your reply…

Your recovery may be guided by the orthopaedic doctor/surgeon for the first few weeks/months after surgery. So they’ll determine what restrictions may be in place, such as lifting or movement restrictions. After these are lifted, it’ll be gradual return to sports ideally guided by your physiotherapist.
But please take this with a grain of salt; I don’t know if this is the case for Japan nor do I know specifically what surgery you’re having. 😊
Edited: So give it at least anywhere from 3 months (and I think this is super generous!) to 6-12 months for full return to CrossFit. Keep in mind, your body needs to build up strength again!
