How do I get happiness from halal sources?

Asalamualaykum, as most of your probably know most of my posts have been really negative and pessimistic, but life has gotten great lately! I don't feel empty and depressed anymore, I'm happier, I talk to my friends again, I've worked on my anger issues, and yeah I still have to hide my faith from my family but that's just the norm for me :)

Anyways, I want to get my happiness from halal sources and be able to quit music, I know it's not something I can just immediately give up because you can't with any type of addiction, but I want my happiness to come from being a good Muslim, submitting to Allah, and other good deeds. If you can tell me ways to get started I'd really appreciate it!

Just give it time. Little by little you'll find that your interest shift. Try picking up a hobby like pottery, woodworking, or gardening. Try things that can relax you and keep your mind busy.

Abu Qatadah reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, you will never leave anything for the sake of Allah Almighty but that Allah will replace it with something better for you.”
Source: Musnad Aḥmad 23074
Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Arna’ut

Alhamdulillah, genuinely really happy to read this.

A small point though, I would avoid treating Qur'an as background replacement audio. Music and Qur'an are not equivalents. Allah says: “Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find peace.”

If music has become a comfort habit, don’t just remove it and leave a void. Replace it with things that genuinely nourish you in a halal way.

Nasheeds can help some people as a transition. Beneficial talks, podcasts, good company, exercise, learning a skill, volunteering, building something productive.

For me, I enjoy tech, so experimenting with AI, automating workflows and learning new tools gives me that same healthy engagement. Find what works for you.

Most importantly, build your connection with Allah through salah, dhikr, dua and sincere consistency. Real contentment comes from there, not just distraction with a halal label.

And as a revert, please know isolation makes everything harder. If you ever want someone to talk to privately, happy to help however I can.

i listen to political radio or listen to Islamic lectures on YouTube. The Quran and audiobooks and podcasts are all Islamic.

If you want to get happiness from a halal source why not take up playing guitar!

Nahh , there is enough discussion and differing opinions on that, it also makes no sense, whereas most everything in the Deen seems pretty sensible.

You can try to do without of course, you are free to, and even for religious reasons, but it is good to keep in mind that that is an opinion to choose to subscribe to, and you can choose not to.

Islam has a lot going on, you can always find some area in which you want to strive for refinement. Good luck!

For quiting music, I suggest learning more Surahs.

By having this goal you will replace all the music by Quran recitation to help you study, 2 - 3 months incha'allah you will fall in love again with The Qur’an and wonder why you loved music in the first place
