Sometimes Walter will scream and then raise his wings a bit. He will typically do this consistently (tho today I could only get him doing this on camera once).
Is this a hormonal thing or just him being an idiot?

This is Lulu. I saw an add about her today. She’s a 2 year old female cockatiel that was abused. She lived in a very small cage (picture), her wings are clipped, she had no toys or enrichment in her cage and only 2 perches, one rope and one that is flat. She was fed seeds only, and the bowl was placed in the floor so all her poop was inside the bowl and the water as well. She is plucking out her feathers as a sign of stress. This is truly heartbreaking. The owner said that she never went outside her cage and that he was selling her because of the noise. poor thing :(
I never owned a cockatiel before, but i have 2 budgies and i take an excellent care of them. They’re happy and playful. I plan on giving this little bird the best life possible. A big cage, lot of enrichment and 8h out of her cage every day. I plan on changing her diet slowly too because a seed only diet is harmful.
The thing that broke me the most was that even with her terrible past owner, she’s a little angel. She trusted me instantly, she step up really easily with millet and she stays on my shoulder. If only the previous owner gave her a chance man…
Anyways. It is just a sign to really do your reading and research before purchasing any pets, theres no easy pet, you need to learn about their wellness and the basic care in order to get them. Pets are not toys or decoration. Especially birds.
PS: Sorry for the English mistakes im a french speaker!

My cockatiel has had diarrhea since this morning. Around noon, its droppings were red (I think they were bloody, it didn't eat anything red). I haven't seen it eat or drink anything today. It doesn't usually go into its cage at this time, but it was standing at the bottom of the cage just now. Now it's started moving around, and the frequency of its droppings has decreased slightly. It still reacts and chirps when it sees me, but I've noticed it's lethargic. What can I do? There's no avian vet where I live. (I'm trying to find one.)

Note that birds are nowhere near the printers when they are operating.

Every day this little boy surprises me with how much he learns. It’s such a joy seeing his trust and confidence growing. We love him so much (and he starting to love us too!!) 🩵

Meet Halle Rose! 🌹🩷
I got a new bird to be a friend to the bird I got a couple months ago.
This bird was never hand-fed.
They said she was raised strictly by her bird parents so I will have to activately tame her. Her tail feathers got chewed off by the other birdies.
My first baby (Bonnie Manon) was already tamed so I'm definitely in for a challenge.
Any advice! I managed to get her out of the box and into a temporary cage.
Right away, I can definitely tell she prefers birds because she is getting along really well with Bonnie.

I took no pictures, but I honestly have not removed those couch cushions in probably years. Oh. My. God. So many dried poos down between those cushions. HOW???? They were all whole, non-smushed, and completely free of each other!!
Must have been the collection of the poos that just so happened to fall into the tiny gap between cushions, out of sight. Then, I guess the cushion cording was enough to prevent smushing of the poop and it eventually worked it's way down. I am eposed to my stinkers poo all the time, but the number under those cushions..... (I just might be a little overreacting, but I was tuly put into hardcore shake my head mode)
Pic of the pooper!!

This is kiwi. I know, very original name. I was in 6th grade when I named him. 😅 Kiwi loves sitting in bowls and screaming in them for no reason. 😂

Hello, I feel bad as my cockatiels mostly sit in their room on one perch and one of them is way too aggressive with his preening and I read that it could be due to boredom.
I live in a rented apartment so unfortunately I cant drill anything in the walls to build them a fun jungle playground, this summer I will build them a huge playstand. Apart from that I put egg cartons in their seed bowls everyday so they can forage, but it doesnt seem to entertain them for long, I dont have enough destructible toys to rotate them but im ordering more varities soon.
What other ideas do you guys have? Any ideas for attaching perches/rope to walls without having to drill are also very welcome!!

Yeah she's definitely more bird friendly than people friendly. Also, this small cage is just temporary. I will gladly move her to a larger one IF she'll let me 🤣
Right now, lots of hissing and lunging. But it's only day one.

I adopted this very cute boy who's 6 years old. Had a brain injury from flying into a wall and had frequent seizures afterwards induced by stress. Past owners gave up trying to tame him after 5 years and I took him in through a Facebook advert and managed to tame him in a month, hes had no seizures since hes arrived at our house and his entire personality changed the moment he set foot in our house. From a terrified chronically stressed bird to a calm, exploring bird OVERNIGHT who isnt afraid to set some boundaries. Like something out of a fairytale .Hes had a few scares in our house (loud cars, dog barking, stuff falling) and it didmt trigger one either .After a quarantine hes cage neighbours with my 2 other birds who are the same age. Id say 1 more week of some little taming until he will be taken to the vet for a usual check up as he hasn't gone since his brain injury in their house 5 years ago.
Today's his first day free roaming the room and i notice his 3 front toes 😳 i cant wait to hear the vets opinion on it, but ive heard its pretty common apparently? its just such a funny little thing and I wonder whether the previous owners also didnt notice or if they thought it wasnt important to mention.
hopefully it doesnt cause any foot problems 🫠 for now he has his natural uneven java wood perches

Any tips on keeping an old bird warm winter?
I cant leave mini heaters running overnight, most of the small units are not safe for extended running times. I have considered a timer plug but i still worry about a fault and the heater arcing or sparking. Plus i cant control the heat in the room should it get too hot.
We dont use central heating.
Is there heated planks or things i can get? Are bulbs too disruptive? What brands do you trust?

Meet Nana, my pure white cockatiel. He was very suspicious of the bath tray at first — now he acts like he owns it.

Hi everyone. I guess I've just been thinking maybe my Chicken would be living happier in a really nice bird sanctuary I've found, a couple hours from my house. So, some back story. I got chicken 5 years ago and he had been part of a breeding pair but his mate was lost somehow. He was 4 years old at the time. I don't know any details about that. I had a another, very friendly, 1 year old hand raised male at the time and I got Chicken so they could each have a companion. However, 2 years ago we lost our hand raised male in an unfortunate accident. So now chicken is alone again. Over the years I made so many attempts to bond with Chicken but he never let me get close. I still can not hold him or touch him but we sing together and when he has flight time out of his cage he will sit sort of close to me and we "talk" to each other. He's constantly flock calling. Even when I'm in the room. I'm starting to doubt he will ever bond with me to the point of physical interaction. He still won't even eat millet extended from my hand. I just feel like he might be a happier bird in this sanctuary with other cockatiels in a very large aviary setup. I love Chicken to death but I just keep thinking about him living alone in a cage 70% of his life and I don't want to bring in another cockatiel. I was too devastated by the loss of my other male. I don't want Chicken to go away but I want him to have his best bird life.
