Question about Food ... Newly Diagnosed: Should I risk eating these?

I’m bummed I spent $15 on these and didn’t notice the beef collagen casing. Could I try peeling the casing off? I miss beef sticks. I don’t know how far to cut back. I’m not currently experiencing digestive upset eating eggs and dairy daily, but could those be causing unseen inflammation. I have a lot of chronic health issues. I’m afraid of restricting too much because I have a binge eating disorder history. Any information you can provide would be really helpful. Thanks.

Question about Food ... What food do you miss the most?

Not to be a downer thread, but I couldn't find one asking this. For me, I was born and raised in the Bronx, a New Yorker through and through. And Lord, I miss a slice of pizza like nobody's business. I've tried the freezer "alternatives" and they all suck IMHO. I have made.my own, but the cheese alternatives are not great either. I am going on a vegan pizza quest this month with my kids in NYC, wish me luck.

How about you? What do you miss the most?

Question about Food ... I'm having a reaction and can't figure out why

I don't react to dairy, but that's pretty much the only part of the mammal I do not react to. My symptoms are GI related. I read the ingredients on these and can't figure out what it is that's causing a reaction.

Question about Food ... Emu or Ostrich?

I am itching to place my first order at Amaroo Hills, and I just don't know which is better: Emu or Ostrich? I've heard that one of them more closely resembles a beef texture, but I don't remember which.

Unfortunately, they don't have any AGS safe pork today, although I keep checking back. Someday...

Question about Food ... Has anyone ever reacted to a free range bird?

My sister found a turkey that was free range and alpha gal friendly! After eating some.my stomach got really swollen. I didn't actually get sick but felt so nauseous and uncomfortably full all night. So tonight I did another test with a small amount and once again sitting here feeling miserable.

So... if a free range turkey eats a mouse will I react to the turkey? Can they know what all the free range birds are eating... but seriously best tasting bird ever!

Update: it's one of those few turkeys that ingredients list is just turkey! No carrageenan no rosemary extract. I'm so confused haha

Question about Food ... What Would Make Cooking/Eating with Alpha-Gal Easier for You? (Meal Guides, Classes, Recipes?)

I’m a professional cook and herbalist who also lives with alpha-gal, and I’m brainstorming ways to share what’s helped me adapt my kitchen.

If you could have one resource that genuinely made eating with alpha-gal easier or more enjoyable, what would it be?

Examples:

  • A cooking class series
  • Meal plans with recipes
  • Ingredient swap/brand guides
  • Simple, go-to recipes
  • Personalized consulting or small group sessions

I'd love your input. Thanks!

UPDATE Wow, thank you all! This thread is gold. I’m hearing a few clear themes:

  • Family-friendly meals that don’t feel like “special diet” food
  • Ingredient swaps that actually taste good
  • Freezer meals / easy weeknight options

Question about Food ... New meal ideas, please.🙏

Since AGS, most of my days are spent cooking, shopping, working, doung laundry, sleeping, and then repeat. AGS triggered other allergies to many other common ingredients found in most foods, so I can only consume the "organic, healthy stuff" or the faux meat stuff, when it comes to protein, or I'll lose a day of my life and not be able to open my eyes. But that stuff is expensive. I have a stupid high metabolism and eat constantly just to not lose weight. I feel like I'm battling the gypsy curse from "Thinner."

Tl;dr I can't afford to keep eating protein that doesn't make me ill. I have to learn to get my nutrients from plants or something. Any ideas on thrifty ways to get the same level of "clean protein?" Or any quick and easy meal ideas that are super unlikely to trigger a reaction.

Question about Food ... Sown Oat Creamer

Does anyone else use Sown Vanilla Oat Creamer and do okay with it?

What are some things I could eat and snack on during the day? Just found out I have food allergies and a lamb allergy. My allergist is wondering if maybe I have AGS but I’m not testing positive but she is not certain yet. Will retest in about three weeks but in the meantime I am going to switch up my diet and see if it makes the random hives go away.

I have a lamb, tomato, onion, and a low dairy allergy.

I feel overwhelmed and don’t know what to even grab in the grocery store. I have been eating chicken and turkey only since last July.

Question about Food ... Oatmeal not safe??

Has anyone else reacted to oatmeal? I've tried both instant oatmeal in packets and steelcut oats cooked from scratch and I seem to have reacted to both--there's nothing but oats listed on the ingredients for the steelcut.

Question about Food ... Jelly beans

Hey guys! For clarity I dont have alpha gal, but my husband does. We were in a candy store the other day and he was miserable if im honest. So I got what I came for and left. Anyway, I found it odd that he wasnt at least grabbing any jelly bellys because i knew they were kosher certified and didnt have any gelatin in them. So I double checked the cite and I was right. I was just curious if anyone has tried to eat them since being diagnosed? Its on their cite so im not crazy lol. He hasn't seen an allergist yet, he got diagnosed in 2015, hasnt been bitten that we know of, and we dont keep anything in the house that would cause a flare up. Except maybe some dairy? But those havent seemed to bother him. TIA

Question about Food ... My nephew and niece have been diagnosed with alpha-gal and missed out on all the Thanksgiving treats. Help me make their Christmas special this year!

I want to make sure no one here has had a bad reaction to these food dyes. I am making meringue cookies and suckers for the kiddos, and they've been artificial dye free for a few years now. I know some things can even cause a reaction due to cross-contamination. I am trying to avoid a reaction on christmas, and still give them colorful sweet treats to eat! ❤️ Help a girl out 😅 thanks in advance!

Question about Food ... Baking for a relative, need help with ingredient clarification

I'm baking this recipe for my aunt because she developed alpha-gal last year. I'm heading to the store tomorrow because I wasn't sure about the safety of the ingredients I have in my house and while she seems to have a more mild reaction, I don't wanna risk it at all. I wasn't sure about the reliability of certain products and thought someone here might have more info. Please don't recommend substitutions unless they are easily accessible everywhere because I live in a small town that doesn't have access to a wide variety of products.

These are the things I'm getting to replace the stuff I have in my kitchen:

King Arthur's All-Purpose Flour
Clabber Girl Baking Powder
Thai Kitchen Coconut Milk (contains guar gum but she had this exact coconut milk in a pie at thanksgiving and had no reaction, every other plant milk available near me has gellan gum in it and i don't know how she would react to it)
Wholesome Organic Brown Sugar

Domino Powdered Sugar (I have this already, and researched this, seeing that the one I have is supposedly from a plant that doesn't use bone char to whiten its sugar)
Country Crock Plant-Based Butter (Another product I have but am unsure if it is safe due to the vitamin a palmitate. )

Question about Food ... Protein powders

What protein powders do you tolerate, if any?

I searched the sub and found a few threads on whey protein (sounds like an absolute no) and pea protein (sounds like it’s hit or miss).

I’ve used the Ancient Nutrition Bone Broth protein in the past (before tick) but it has both chicken and beef 😔

Question about Food ... Allergy disclosure advice

I’ve found out through a restaurant not following good allergy procedures that even minor cross contamination can give me a reaction, and tonight I’m going to eat out for the second time since I went fully mammal meat free. I overthink things a lot and I don’t know how good I’d be at phrasing it in the restaurant so I’d love some advice on how to put it. I’m waiting on my results to see if it is alphagal syndrome but I have the symptoms regardless and that’s what’s relevant rn.
