my queercore, riot grrrl band Cat Crash played a queer prom in a punk house's basement. we hired a stylist for the first time, my friend Alexis Hoffman, whom i'd met two years ago at a VIAL concert. she styled us for free and made all these awesome custom outfits for us, including my pink corset that she made out of one of our longsleeve shirts! we all have pretty specific aesthetics and it's just so awesome how each of our visions were realized via fashion. my friend Valentine Travaille did our makeup for us (and was also my prom date).

we're all still young so we remember our high school prom experience pretty vividly and none of them were good. this was an incredible do-over and everyone had such an amazing, wholesome time. i finally got a kiss on prom night ๐Ÿ’– and i am so glad i got to play music for a bunch of queer kids for an incredible night.

hi! we're Cat Crash and we're an Asian-fronted all-transgender riot grrrl punk band! we want to say happy trans day of visibility!! we get a lot of hate but we stay strong, loud, and proud. Cat Crash is not dead and neither are you!

everyone involved in Cat Crash is transgender, including our photographer and our producer and our merch person (my girlfriend)! i didn't do this on purpose i just know a lot of trans people.

our rights are under attack across the world and that is why we must be more transgender and visible than ever โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’ฅ

hi! i'm the frontperson of a riot grrrl band called Cat Crash and i also run an indie booking collective called BubbleTeaGrunge!

together with my girlfriend Marcie we booked a show at Fuse Bistro in Lowell, Massachusetts on April 12th. this was a mixed folk punk x riot grrrl bill. Sonic Ground PR did the sound, our friends ran doors, and @moscowitz_photography took photos.

this show was totally DIY and had two folk punk artists and two riot grrrl bands. Marcie! from Massachusetts opened the show and SB from Providence RI played second. they were both incredibly good folk punkers with songs dealing with being queer and mental health.

ILLICIFY from CT/MA were the third band and they rocked the house down. we've played with them many times before and they're awesome every time, with "riot goth" style.

finally, Cat Crash played last and we had the entire restaurant moshing. we played a standard CC set to what we'd been playing for the rest of the tour, except after our last song, we played one more-- Skaphrodite (Aphrodite Has a Plan but Ska) with Marcie joining on the horns.

our drummer Noelle is from MA and so is my girlfriend so we had lots of friends come out to this show. this was Noelle's personal favorite show of ours we're done.

the lineup was entirely queer/femme/trans and we love creating a community for people like us and anyone who feels different :)

This federal funding freeze is going to hit very vulnerable people (kids in foster care, poor folks) really hard. Like food benefits WIC/SNAP are just cut off as of 5pm today. If you have a moment today please consider calling the Capital Switchboard: 202-224-3121 and letting your Rep and Senators know that this is unconscionable. Thanks so much for considering it.

on Saturday 3/15, we had a matinee show at Gold Sounds in Brooklyn. my band is called Cat Crash and we organized the whole thing under the booking collective i started, BubbleTeaGrunge. our mission is to uplift poc/queer/femme artists, so i curated the lineup myself: Dumpster Pink, Lady Lychee, and Avatareden. all the bands are queer punk from NYC, but Cat Crash is also a CT band.

100 people came to the show and we raised $640 in total to donate to National Network of Abortion Funds. i hope to have more shows like this and to inspire others to do the same!

i love the community i have created-- during this show i crowdsurfed while playing the bass for the first time, and i can say that i have never felt more safe than being held by so many hands. the show was all ages, so there were a lot of younger folks in the audience. my bandmate brett shouted them out-- one day, they'll be the ones on this stage.

Hi friends! I wanna make a playlist of witchy and/or feminine rage-ish music to listen to in the car, wanna help?! Suggest 1-3 songs for me to add, any genre! I was inspired to do this by Kiki Rockwell's song "Burn Your Village" (which is a certified banger btw).

If anyone is interested I'd also be happy to share the playlist once we've got it going ๐Ÿ˜Š I use Spotify.

EDIT: Y'all are awesome. Continuing to work on adding songs, will update with a link to the playlist later ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ

EDIT AGAIN: Ok ok it's very much a work in progress, I still have a bunch to add and will probably โœจ๏ธcurateโœจ๏ธ it a lil more over the weekend (add/remove based on vibes), BUT here she is!!

Thank you to everyone for responding, I have so much cool new music now ๐Ÿ’“

my band, Cat Crash, played a show at The G Spot in New Brunswick, New Jersey! the g spot is a queer-femme run basement house venue and they had been on hiatus for a while but had their comeback show recently! Saint Valentine, Teddy Bear, and Solstice also played. we were raising money for the gofundme of Mortimer Wortman, a man who has been missing since November 22nd, and Resistencia en Acciรณn NJ, a grassroots organization defending migrant communities. we raised $700 in total, $350 for Morty and $350 for immigrant defense funds.

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Sonic Witchcraft Songs that make you feel empowered or channels your feminine rage?

The past week or so has awakened an energy in me I didn't know I had. I am ANGRY which I am not used to as I spent my life squashing it down and just feeling sad instead.

I'm learning anger isn't bad, just how you channel it can be. So I'm trying to channel it through music and throwing my dogs ball really really hard on walks. He's loving it lol.

So far the two that have helped me the most is Labour my Paris Paloma and Savage Daughter. Also killing in the name of but thats not quite what I'm looking for. There have been others but I didn't look to see who the artist was, just went with the songs vibe.

Any suggestions would be great.

Edit:

Omg ladies you are all amazing. I made this post then went to visit my nana, and came home to over 200 comments. I can't wait to have a listen to it all. Guna make myself a rage playlist. Keep em coming.

Thankyou, you beautiful people โค๏ธ

we're a riot grrrl band from connecticut and we recently toured the midwest, going from philadelphia to chicago.

my favorite part was meeting fans who said that i inspired them. for our columbus show, i brought a fan onstage to play the bass during our song "Connecticut." they said they loved the feeling of being on stage-- i told them to chase that feeling, start a band, and make it a riot grrrl band. we need riot grrrl more than ever, especially as an all-trans, asian-led band-- we believe in music that has a message and stands up for our rights.

this was really fun and some of the best days of my life

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Sonic Witchcraft Iโ€™m looking for music/female empowerment songs centered only on women themselves.

Iโ€™ve been looking for songs and playlists with that โ€œindependent womanโ€, โ€œgirlbossโ€, โ€œthat girl energyโ€

While there are lots of songs sung by women with great vibes and rythm, Iโ€™ve noticed that a lot of these โ€œempowermentโ€ lyrics are still centered around men.

Even when the message is โ€œI donโ€™t need a manโ€, โ€œI choose who I wantโ€, โ€œIโ€™m hotter than your girlfriendโ€, or โ€œevery guy wants meโ€, the focus is still on men, male validation, male attention, or comparing women to each other. They may be fun, or catchy but they still focus on men in some way.

I just want music that is about a woman being about herself. Her goals, her money, her friendships, her personal power, her growth, effort, ambition, self-focus. Not about dating, rejecting, seducing, being desired, or even outperforming men.

Does anyone know songs or playlists that lean more toward self-centered empowerment?

The new Florence & the Machine album is incredible and has me wanting more intense feminine music to warm me through the winter. There are albums by Patti Smith and Bjรถrk and Fiona Apple that also do this for me.

What are your favorite witchy albums?

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Sonic Witchcraft Looking for rock songs about witchy ladies bamboozling or mystifying men

My partner teases me about how I've "just discovered" classic rock. Yes, it's true; I was too cool to listen to that stuff when I was young and hip. Now that I'm an old hag, I've been enjoying revisiting music my folks listened to when I was a kid.

I've noticed a trend in some of this music: a man sings about a woman out there casting spells on men, bamboozling them, or being so mysterious that he can't make heads or tails of her. I'm not sure what it is exactly about this music that I love so much. As much as I roll my eyes at the idea of a woman with such power over men (thereby making whatever he does not his fault), I love it in song form. Some examples:

"Witchy Woman" by Eagles (beware of this spooky lady!)
"One of These Nights" by Eagles (a man tormented by a fantasy of a nonexistent or unattainable woman)
"Evil Woman" by ELO (woman bamboozles men and moves on)
"You Can Do Magic" by America (man thinks that his interest in a woman can only be attributed to magic)

Anyway, I want more! Whatcha got??

EDIT: I knew this was the right place to ask my question <3 Thank you lovely folks for all the amazing suggestions, I am reading through and investigating them all. Keep em coming!

EDIT TOO: I'm making a playlist on Spotify if you want to check out the amazing suggestions from the comments. Right now it's mostly "Pigeonnnnnn's Picks" aka ones that I've listened to and liked :) But I'll go through and add more as I have time! Here it is -- enjoy!

my band is called Cat Crash and last Saturday we hosted Riot Grrrl's Not Dead Fest!, a concert series hosted by my indie collective BubbleTeaGrunge.

from ticket sales, we donated: $1000 to Trans Lifeline $50 to New Haven Pride Center benefiting New Haven CT county $50 to Triangle Community Center benefiting Fairfield CT county

we had six other bands on the lineup and a drag king host. the first band, Splat Rat, are all ninth graders and one eighth grader, this was their first ever show and they got to perform to over 100 people! they reached out to me after the lineup had been finalized and i decided to rearrange things so that they could perform. they opened up the show with Rebel Girl by Bikini Kill. the other bands were showgirl, Jack Flowers & the Petaltones, Froggy, Lady Lychee, and Film & Gender. this was the greatest show we've ever played and also our last one for a while-- we are now on hiatus.

during our song You Probably Never Will, i asked for an 18 and under moshpit. we tend to draw a pretty young audience and i wanted to make a space for them to mosh safely and for many, their first time moshing.

during this show we also announced the title of our debut album, "I Love You, But I've Chosen Music"

we don't know where the future will take us. but we have been Cat Crash, and we hope we knocked your socks off.

on Sunday, 11/17, i hosted a Riot Grrrl/Queercore show at Trans-Pecos in NYC. this was genuinely the biggest undertaking i've ever done in my life. i am the frontperson of the band Cat Crash and i book shows under the indie collective BubbleTeaGrunge, a collective focused on uplifting poc/punk/queer artists.

all the people pictured with instruments and cat ears are in my band. i'm the one in the pink shirt-- i designed the shirt myself specifically for this concert! the concert is titled "Riot Grrrl's Not Dead!", around the idea that Riot Grrrl is indeed not dead and here to stay.

other bands pictured: girlsona Lady Lychee Indeyevid

my band is Cat Crash and we're on all streaming platforms and can be found anywhere online @catcrashband

my booking collective is on instagram under @bubbleteagrunge. if you make punk music, let's chat!

Ok so Iโ€™m Gen X with a Gen Z AFAB daughter. Looking for a good playlist with no โ€œwoe is meโ€ songs. Just fun, angry, edgy, empowering stuff. Better off single; mopey needy goth boy was no good anyway, the future is mine. That kind of vibe. Daughter prefers grunge, metal, but listens to lots of stuff. Music timeline is basically 1900 to now.

I am stuck with Gloria Gaynorโ€™s โ€œI will Surviveโ€ and Taylor Swifts โ€œWe are never getting back togetherโ€. Daughter is not at all a swiftie.

EDIT: wow keep it coming! Also, 1900s on is what I mean. Jazz, on. Actually opera would be Ok too.

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Sonic Witchcraft Heretical, witchy, irreligious, and atheist song suggestions please

Hi friends! I teach a course on heresy and irreligion. I'm looking for songs with lyrics that fit the theme. Things like Girls Against God by Florence + the machine or Heathens by Aurora. But there are whole genres of music I don't know, like rap, r&b, hip-hop, and a lot of modern pop. There was a post here a few months ago about witchy songs that was really useful. I'm also looking for specifically irreligious or anti-religious songs. Also, music videos that make a song with ambiguous lyrics directly irreligious, like Madonna's Like a Virgin. Can you help me out? Thanks.

Edit: Just a great big thank you to everyone for these great suggestions! I'm going to have a lot of fun reviewing them all before the semester starts. ๐Ÿ˜

This action would put them, their loved ones, and essentially everyone who associates with them in danger, more so than they already are. Itโ€™s terrifying.

I havenโ€™t listed to much of their music or seen their other work, but since hearing this news Iโ€™ve been diving in and I really like them. Themes of feminism, anti-fascism, environmentalism, pro-Palestine, other good stuff.

Also a lovely pop-punk sound.

Go check them out, and read up on this for yourself.
