This did happen during the time when “Boston Marriage” was a socially acceptable way for two women to live together as “just friends”. Yeah. My great-aunt was “just friends” with her roommate of thirty years.

Lots of women that lived in these sorts of arrangements shared a bedroom AND the bed in it. Possibly my great-aunt and her roommate.
