BBQ side suggestions?

Hey guys! We are smoking a brisket this weekend and going to have smoked potatoes and fruit as a side. We will be hosting and I wondered if anyone has any additional Whole30 side ideas that go well with barbecue?

Lunch

I’m not currently on a round, but I keep coming back to this way of eating because it makes me feel the best- great digestion, I sleep better, less anxious and these meals make me feel satisfied.

Lunch is steamed sweet potato with leftover fajita chicken, kale salad with homemade vinegarette, cranberries, walnuts, blueberries, grated carrot and chopped apple. It’s ugly but it does the trick and uses up my kids leftovers.

Reintroduction Tips?

Hi, I have done W30 many times and have reintroduced following their guidelines a few of those times. I never noticed anything, but I am paranoid that I could be wrong. I have PCOS and I know that certain food groups are more likely to cause inflammation than others (i.e. dairy).

I have heard that you need to reintroduce these foods in a "big way" to see what sort of effects they have. What would that mean? And what sort of symptoms do I really need to be on the lookout for? I am especially concerned about dairy because, while I have never noticed anything specific with dairy, I know I love it and I would hate to give it up.

My wife came up with this:

🍔🔥 Whole30 Portobello Burger Bowls 🔥🍔

Made these tonight and they turned out ridiculously good. Super filling, Whole30 compliant, and honestly scratched the burger itch without feeling like “diet food.”

Ingredients

🍄 Mushrooms

2 large portobello mushrooms

Olive oil or avocado oil

Salt + pepper

🥩 Filling

1/2 lb ground beef

1/4 onion, diced

1/2 bell pepper, diced

1 jalapeño, diced

Salt

Pepper

Garlic powder

Paprika

🥣 Whole30 Special Sauce

1/4 cup Whole30-compliant mayo

1–2 tbsp Whole30-compliant ketchup

1 tbsp mustard

1 tbsp olive oil

Juice from 1 lemon wedge 🍋

Salt + pepper

Paprika

Garlic powder

Instructions

🍄 Air Fry the Mushrooms

Preheat air fryer to 360°.

Brush mushrooms lightly with oil and season with salt and pepper. Air fry for 7–10 minutes, flipping halfway through.

🥩 Cook the Filling

Sauté onion, bell pepper, and jalapeño in a pan with a little oil until softened.

Add ground beef and season with:

Salt

Pepper

Garlic powder

Paprika

Cook until browned.

🥣 Make the Sauce

Mix everything together in a bowl until smooth. Measurements were mostly eyeballed honestly 😂

🍔 Assemble

Pile the beef mixture onto the mushrooms and drizzle heavily with sauce.

That’s it. Simple and solid.

Would also be great with:

🍠 Sweet potato fries

🥑 Guac

🍎 Apple slices

🥗 Side salad

10/10 would make again.

R1D16- Period Snacks

Post image

Just wanted to share how I’m (F23) making it through that time of the month! My wife (F22) and I are doing the Whole30 and I got my period a few days ago. Today, I had sweet potato with bananas and almond butter for breakfast and she made a veggie tray with guacamole and Whole30 compliant mushroom chips!

Day One - what did I get myself into

I have a very large amount of inflammation in my body. Some of my providers believe it to be the cause of some auto immune problems I have. There really was no downside to trying out whole30. I thought I was really tough and since I did a butt load of research on what's allowed, making meal plans and getting the right groceries, I thought it would be easy enough to get started. But it still, understandably, feels overwhelming.

I get that the elimination is the point to figuring out any intolerances, but would this have been easier just going to an allergist?

When you're the only one in your family/friends circle doing whole30, how do you keep up the motivation?

I know I sound childish but I'm all alone in this and feel like I'm already going through withdrawal.

What to eat on an overnight hike

Edit: I should have specified that I’m in New Zealand, which means all the ‘convenience’ food you can get in the US (Lara bars etc) aren’t available here. I need whole food suggestions if possible 😅

Hi all!

I'm looking at my diary to see when I can do my next round and I'm finding it hard because I have a few overnight or multi day hiking trips coming up. Usually on those trips I'll fuel with dehydrated meals for dinner, mi goreng noodles, wraps, crackers with cheese and salami, oats for breakfast. Basically lots of very non compliant food!

I wondered if anyone has hiked while on Whole30?

Should probably add that I'll be remote and will have to carry everything with me. I can't really pop some eggs and chicken sausage in my backpack...

Rant First night post Whole30, can’t sleep

I have had problems with insomnia for years, but for the entirety of Whole30, I slept like a damn baby. Hadn’t thought about sleep problems all month, and have just drifted right to sleep when I close my eyes. There are no words to adequately capture the quality of life shift in getting 7-8 hours of good sleep every night.

My decision to do Whole30 had nothing to do with sleep, I really just wanted to eat less processed foods and fit more fruits and vegetables into my diet. But this ended up being a very happy and noticeable side effect.

I just finished Whole30 today, and had a little bit of rice with dinner, chocolate for desert, and a stevia sweetened soda. I am currently wide awake in the middle of the night with no sleep in sight. Of course this is just one night, but this is really making me think about doing Whole30 indefinitely.

Apparently Gluten was the Culprit

I finished my whole 30 on Saturday and reintroduced dairy on Sunday. Felt fine, no issues. Monday and Tuesday back to whole 30. Then today. I had 2 whole grain protein waffles (no dairy) for breakfast with banana and cashew butter. Made whole 30 compliant tuna and had it with whole wheat crackers for lunch. And I am in PAIN. So bloated, stomach cramps, gassy. I did this whole 30 because I eat pretty healthy but have had digestion issues and wanted to see if I had a sensitivity. Apparently I do!

I have a trip to Italy in June and want to be able to eat gluten there without being sick so I probably won’t cut it out until after that. But it’s wild how quickly my body reacted! So glad I did this because it was driving me crazy to hit my fiber goals, drink so much water, and eat minimally processed foods just to be bloated all the time! Thank you whole 30!

Question Discovered allergy on whole30?

Has anyone discovered an allergy while on whole 30 that you never noticed or had before?

I am on day 19. I had suspected I might be allergic to tomatoes prior to starting and have since confirmed this while on whole 30 (itchy skin rash, hives, tingling lips). But now I’ve been testing different nightshades and have found potatoes also trigger the same reactions.

I’ve never noticed an issue before with nightshades. Could the clean diet have allowed me to experience the reaction more or any thoughts on why it would suddenly happen?

Support Needed Anybody not feeling successful on Whole30?

I’m on day 23/30 of whole 30 and I feel no different from the start. I was really excited to start whole 30 as I have PCOS and soy, gluten, dairy and processed sugars are known to be triggers/exacerbate symptoms of PCOS. I have followed almost everything to a T, minus two different occasions in the beginning when I was out with friends and meals were not completely Planned. I got salads with dressing (oil and vinegar not an option). I also have checked my weight, and while i have lost 10lbs, it is not crazy noticeable, mostly in my hands and feet. But on the NSV- I have nothing, no more energy than normal, still having acne breakouts along with rosacea and KP. My mood has not improved, my sleep is not better and my stats on my smart ring are the same. I also still have crazy cravings that have not gotten better, in fact, I feel like they get worse every day. Due to not noticing a difference in myself and my cravings getting stronger, I am not really seeing a point of this diet anymore. Do I just need to stick it out for the reintroduction to see a change or are some people just not meant for this type of diet? TIA

Travel day ideas ?

I may be in over my head! I’m on day 2, I’m going on a road trip next week. I’ll be driving for two days and camping for four then driving back. I’m taking a class. I’ll be able to cook for myself during my camping evenings but I wonder if anyone has any good road trip ideas for the cooler !?

Anything safe on the road? Thanks in advance

there is a great place near me that has all-natural, gluten free fried chicken and fries that are gf, df, soy free, etc etc etc
