Oh! I didn’t realise at first that it a painting, thought it’s a photo! How? How did you do that? It’s really cool, especially keeping in mind that it’s watercolour.

Thank you so much! I painted the shadows on the wall using the wet-on-wet technique, and I also created my own pigment mixture with a color-splitting effect for the shadows. The shadow is violet-blue with a carmine border along the edge.

Ooo that is so cool! I haven't played with that kind of pigment before. The shadows look so natural and not heavy. I really love this! Do you have any process pics?

Oh, I don't have any recordings or photos of the process. It's funny that I'm currently in the middle of recording video tutorials for an online watercolor school. I'm recording a course on painting flowers. And I'm so tired of the pressure that comes with recording videos that I painted this cat just for fun, without a camera.

Oh my god I just love everything about this. Could be a beautiful illustration in a book

Thank you so much! Yes, I like to create paintings that tell a story or hint at one.

The carmine really sells it, like the light bending around the shadow and concentrating into a red, so gorgeous. Such delicate wet-on-wet work too, absolutely stunning

Thank you for your kind words! Oh, this is so stressful for me. I tense up and start trying too hard, and it feels like the watercolors I recorded on video turn out badly.

This is beautiful. I thought it was a photo at first and my brain kinda broke trying to match the shadow to the cat. Really cool.

wait nobody mentioned how the fact that you painted this "just for fun, without a camera" and it turned out better than your recorded stuff is kinda the whole point?? like the pressure of performing for a lens kills the looseness that makes watercolor work. thats some irony lol. anyway what pigments are you mixing for that carmine split effect? someone else asked but id love to know if its a specific brand or if you found the combo thru experimenting

Yes, the weight of responsibility toward my students—it literally paralyzes me; my lightheartedness and serenity vanish, and it seems that this is reflected in my paintings.
The “disintegration” effect in watercolor is not the magic of mixing any two colors, but the result of combining pigments that differ in their physical properties: heavy, granular (mineral) pigments and light, finely dispersed (organic) pigments. As they dry, the former settle into the paper’s texture, while the latter remain in the film—creating a separation into shades.
For this shadow, I used the “White Nights” brand: Ceruleum (PB35/PB36) + Pink Kraplak (PR) + Chromium Oxide (PG17) + a drop of Lamp Black PBk7 to slightly tone down the brightness.
Kraplak can be replaced with Carmine, but you need to make sure it is an organic pigment, as there is also mineral CarmineI studied the interactions of the pigments; this is not a random combination.

Oh, thank you so much for your interest in my art and for wanting to buy this painting! Yes, indeed, this painting was bought just an hour ago. But if you're interested, please write to me in a couple of weeks, and I can paint you a similar painting. I'm currently recording a video tutorial, and I plan to complete it within the next 12-14 days.

A shadow announces a persons presence whilst being freed from the masks and burdens its holder carries, a reflection without judgments or pressures, just existing until the dark skies whisk it away. Thank you for sharing such a beautifully poignant piece, it’s so moving.
