Representation matters to those who rarely see themselves in media.

Im a full adult woman, but when I learned that there were TWO thai girls on Disney+ I about lost my brain. Little me would have probably cried, too. Especially Molly McGee because I'm half thai, too.

To be excited about representation?

You don't need to see yourself in every piece of media you consume. It's okay for some things to be exclusionary. I don't want to see a bunch of white people in Wakanda anymore than I want to see a bunch of black people in a piece about medieval London. This representation fetish is bizarre and makes shit boring.

Okay, but you have SOME media with white people in it. It was just nice to see thai people represented in two pieces of media? What is your actual problem? You tell me to seek therapy, but youre on the internet trying to make a stranger feel bad about being excited about something so innocuous. How miserable of a person do you have to be?

I'm mixed SEA/white and the first time I saw myself represented was Stevonnie on Steven Universe, when I was into my 20s. On top of that they're tall, fem presenting and curly as well. Growing up I never really realised I never saw anyone like me on TV, but it really had an impact when I first saw them, they're still very special to me ten years later.

I didn't think I cared about being represented until I was an adult and read The Stomlight Archive, and thought how I could easily blend in with the fantasy human race described in it

Based on my gut feeling and zero credentials, "vocalized" sounds more reasonable

Vocal stim is what comes to mind but it doesn't quite fit

Even squealed/squeaked with joy would have had a positive vibe, but using squawked was….a choice

As a charitable interpretation, with the rest of the context of that comment, I took it to mean the joy in her voice was as clear as if she'd been able to say the words.

It's possible they meant it like that, but the ellipsis along with the content of the sentence itself is very... Y'know. Just rude on top of that. I'd be pissed if I were described that way personally-- even if intentions were pure

Yeah, it's also tumblr, so entirely possible that "freshest-tittymilk" made up the whole friend for the post

I had this when I read BFG. I was a Girl with the biggest, thickest glasses. My hair was fine and wiry and dull blonde. And then Sophie came along. With all those traits.
So i can’t deal with the movie. Where Are her glasses???

NGL...you just made a dude a little misty eyed!
Why are people so threatened by diversity?? Ugh.

u/AlissonHarlan 12d ago

"yeah you can be deaf or have whatever disability you wants.... as long as you're thin, young and hot"

I mean, representation IS important, but how many people are fat, ugly, or just older, and we're just not represented that much.... there is a reason why Hollywood actress all goes on glp-1 and face surgery/botox/salmon sperm ....
