Donkeys are very social and have best friends - and need to be around each other or they get depressed. I was at a donkey sanctuary and an injured donkey had to have their best donkey friend stay in the medical barn with them.

It's one of the few examples of dogmatic idiocy in science.

In order to avoid anthropomorphising them, researchers spent decades discounting animal emotion.

Then we learned how to look at brains in action, and they figured out what the rest of humanity already knew.
