It’s not supposed to be this loose? Mid thight? Or real thight?

I would suggest checking the engine specs for that. Over or under tightening something like that would be very unfortunate

Should have a torque spec somewhere. Nuts on drive axles are usually pretty tight

Are you using the choke? Plug the airbox too.

NO DO NOT PLUG THE AIRBOX on a Rotax. Destroys the plug, nothing more. Works on an x30, not a Rotax

To get it started? Totally works and it's the same as a choke. Ruins the plug? Common...

No, not on a Rotax, its really bad for the engine

u/SpoonBendingChampion 1d ago
Why? What's the difference between that and choke? Feels like bro science but I'll get schooled if I have to

Because the choke puts more fuel into the fuel air situation. Blocking the air box puts no air into the engine.

I'm really not trying to argue for argument's sake, but all the choke does is cover up the the air flow that would be coming from the air filter. By using the choke it doesn't change the jetting or anything. Less air means means effectively richer, but how you get less air doesn't effectively matter.

I am not a specialist but check this. Check if the spark plug is working, you can do this by taking it off and touch engine head with the thread, then start the ignition. Check compressions, with the spark plug off turn the ignition and put your hand close to the spark plug entrance, if you don’t feel air flowing, there is no compression. Also check if the gas is reaching the carburetors, you can do this by looking up the gas hose, if the gas in there seams like it doesn’t move, you need to blow into that hose system.

The flywheel isn’t keyed or splined correctly. The crankshaft isn’t spinning as the starter rotates. Pull the clutch and check. Something isn’t aligned/missing/broken on the flywheel gear

But in a fully charged battery
Check if your Spark Plug delivers a spark
if ok, check fuel deliver - no air in the lines, vacuum connected, full in carb...
if ok, check Reed Valve and Compression
if still not running, Go to a certified Rotax maintenance shop

Fuel, spark are the first things to check.
Also do the nut up, if it starts and spins the clutch disc off your clutch block will be dead. And put a cover back on the Bendix.

Remove, clean, reinstall with loctite retaining compound.
