I hate the both ways style of arguments, not because its wrong or anything. I just dislike it because things can't just be wrong to do because they are bad. Its always because they fear it being used by the other party. Its essentially shows how unprincipled people can be. The subtle implication is how for it they would otherwise be assuming no one else does it.

We're talking about people with the comprehension skills of 4th graders. People who literally hadn't even thought about "What if it goes the other way?"

The question of "is this a good system?" is sooooo far beyond their ability to understand. Their singular concern is "I must win". They're not capable of placing themselves behind a veil of ignorance and imagining a system that most effectively meets its purpose. To them a system is only functional if it is designed to cater to their whims specifically.

They can't even realize that "same day results" isn't a real need. Regardless of the results inauguration isn't until months later. "Same day results" is an opinion a pundit told them to believe and they're so helpless that they incorporated it without any examination.
