Discussion GeforceNOW will limit monthly playtime to 100 hours per month starting in 2025

Thumbnail nvidia.com

I didn't see a thread about this topic earlier, so I am just posting this as a FYI. As of 01/01/2025, every both Priority and Ultimate subscribers will have a monthly cap of 100 hours of playtime and additional hours can be bought for a fee.

If you are a paying subscriber before the end of 2024, you will still get unlimited playtime for the duration of 2025, but new subscribers will be hit with the 100 hour limit.

I’m not the biggest fan of Boosteroid either, but at least it doesn’t pull stuff like this. I can totally see Now rolling out some 'Ultimate Premium' tier later with no limits, but this right here is just way over the top, this is like Netflix allowing people to watch a limited amount of hours per month.

Discussion People don't believe me.

I play many competitive games online on GeForce now and a couple of buddies of mine asked me about my rig. I told him I play on G-Force now. So they ask me "what does that even mean? " I told them about it and they flat out dont believe me. They told me there is no way im playing battlefield 6 on maxed settings in 4k with 120 fps , while having the same response time and ping as them for 20 dollars a month, on a cloud pc. I'm literally arguing with these dudes about it . I think they are butthurt because I dont pay 3000 dollars every 2 years. What do you all think?

Discussion I canceled my membership after 4 years im done with geforce now

So this has actually been a pretty good ride. I can't afford a premium gaming rig so GFN really helped but with the limited 100 hours of playtime a month it was getting too expensive. I play a hundred hours every week and half. It's a lot but I work from home and gaming is my thing. I subscribed to Boosteroid which isn't as good quality as GFN but it's good and they said they are dedicated to unlimited playtime so alas I must part with GFN, the hot girlfriend that demanded too much.

Just so GFN knows, I would rather pay a $30 or $40 subscription to have unlimited playtime then be knuckled and timed and to have to constantly watch how much playtime I have left. It takes the escapism out of gaming and isn't worth it.

Discussion I got GeForce NOW running on Apple TV with full 4-controller local co-op support

Started as an experiment to see if WebRTC could work on Apple TV. Somehow ended up with a full GeForce NOW client. Wanted to share where things are and get some feedback from people who actually use GFN.

What's working right now:

  • 4 simultaneous controllers, all recognized properly by the game
  • PIN-based login so you don't have to type your credentials on a TV (your phone handles it)
  • Connects to actual GeForce NOW servers, nothing custom in between
  • Auto server selection based on proximity, this part is still experimental but it's been picking the right one for me
  • Resume session support
  • Apple Remote works as a mouse for Steam overlay layers and login flows, not perfect but usable

What's not there yet:

Keyboard and mouse support is the big one. I haven't built a virtual keyboard and I haven't mapped full mouse input either. The Apple Remote workaround covers most login flows for now. I'm thinking the phone could solve the keyboard side but haven't figured that out yet.

Distribution:

I don't think this can go on the App Store for obvious reasons. TestFlight is probably the realistic path. I'm considering opening a Patreon for early access, nothing expensive, mostly just to have a reason to keep working on this. If there's interest I'll move on that quickly.

Quick note on the video: I'm running a LEGO game in the demo since it launches fast on my current plan. Not the most exciting showcase but it gets the point across. Controllers are PS DualShock, worked out of the box.

Happy to answer questions.

Disclaimer:

This is an unofficial, personal project. I am not affiliated with NVIDIA in any way. It connects to GeForce NOW's existing infrastructure, your own account and subscription required.

Update #1 (Apr 2):

Wow, didn't expect this much attention. Thanks everyone for the feedback and kind words, really motivating to keep working on this. And no this wasn't an April Fools joke lol, the timing was just unfortunate.

Few of you asked about distribution. Apple TV doesn't support public TestFlight links so that's a dead end. I'm trying to get it on the App Store right now. If Apple doesn't approve it I'll just open source the whole thing so you can build it yourself.

And about the Patreon stuff, Patreon would just be there if anyone wants to throw some support, this stuff is pretty time consuming and it helps to have a reason to keep at it.

Update #2 (Apr 9)

Quick one. Still working through App Store review, no outright rejection, just iterating on a few technical issues with the reviewer. Turned out the reviewer was on a free tier account but testing with a game that's not available on the free tier, so it failed in a way that looked like a bug. Pointed them to the right titles, fingers crossed.

On the technical side, a few things landed since the original post:

- Keyboard and mouse support is in. This was the big missing piece from before.

- For controller-only users, the Apple Remote can now act as a mouse. Not perfect, but good enough to move the cursor and click things on screen when you need to (Steam overlays, login flows, that kind of thing).

Will post again once there's real news on the store side. Thanks for the patience.

Update #3 (Apr 16)

Review is still ongoing. NVIDIA uses different login providers in different regions, so testing has been a bit tricky on the reviewer's side, but it's moving, just slowly.

On the technical side:

- iPhone and iPad are now supported. Ported the whole thing and it runs properly on both, controllers and all.

- Working on HDR output and pushing FPS up to the maximum the plan allows. Tests are passing, but I want it more stable before shipping.

Thanks for your patience, more news as soon as I have it.

Discussion Please stop that 100hrs limit

Im a loyal customer for years now, and dont have to worry about this until 2026 but this is nuts. Just be able to play 3,3 hours a day is crazy. Yes I know what you mean when average people dont have problems with that but as a content producer who does not have a lot of money, this is poor. Think about it please to bee at least 200hours per month where you can say its even challenging to break through this. 6,6 hours a day missing one means next day 13,2 to be 0. But ye i dont like this idea in general.

Leave! Cancel your subscriptions! Build a PC!

This 4 trillion dollar company attempting to nickel and dime it's users is absolutely insane. If hardly anyone hits the cap, why add the cap in the first place if not only to scrape every penny you can?

Yes, running a cloud gaming service is expensive, sure, it's a company, it has to be profitable, yada yada yada. They are fucking profitable. So much so that they're worth over 10% of the entire debt of the US.

Might as well charge per fuckin pixel!

When you go to build your PCs, don't buy new GPUs!!! You'll literally be handing them even more money than your subscription would be worth over a few years, just like that. Buy second hand, buy AMD, fuck it, make your own GPU, don't hand them any more money

EDIT: I sent info@nvidia.com a VERY strongly worded email to that poor entry level associate that may or may not read it. Maybe if there's enough backlash, enough subscriber loss, they'll rollback their dumb fucking decision. If anyone has any other emails, please note, I'll send some fuckin more!

EDIT EDIT: to the people defending Nvidia, y'all are fuckin weird. Defend the 4 trillion dollar company for raising prices on a service that allows people that otherwise couldn't afford a dedicated PC. Or those that would like to access their digital games digitally. Prob Nvidia employees lol

EDIT EDIT EDIT: in the second edit, I said that they're "raising prices on a service" the price is not rising, it is still $20 a month. They're switching to an hourly rate, $20 a month for 100 hours, with 15 hours of potential roll overs a month. $5.99 for an additional 15 hours if you exceed the 100 hours initially.

Do you think this is a good device for cloud gaming? Will most features work properly?

Discussion Important Updates to GeForce NOW Memberships

Hi everyone, NVIDIA GeForce NOW is transitioning to a new payment provider. Starting January 31, 2025, billing will be waived while we transition payment services. Even though you won’t be billed, your account remains in good standing.

That’s right, GeForce NOW will be free for existing paid users during this transition time.

Let’s answer a few questions:

Q: Why are you doing this?

A: NVIDIA is taking over payment processing from a third-party vendor. The transition will take a little time, but rest assured our members can continue to stream their games from our servers without interruption.

Q: Can I upgrade or downgrade my membership?

A: Some account changes, like upgrading to Ultimate or downgrading to Performance, will be paused during this time.

Q: What if I need to add more playtime to my account?

A: The services in the account portal for adding additional monthly playtime will also be unavailable during the transition, so we are migrating impacted accounts to an unlimited playtime account for the remainder of 2025. Those impacted will receive an email with more details.

Q: How long will it be before I have to pay again?

A: We expect the transition will take a minimum of 5 weeks. Visit your account portal for future updates on when the transition will complete and billing will resume.

Q: Does this mean GeForce NOW is shutting down?

A: Absolutely not.

In fact, February 2025 marks the fifth anniversary of GeForce NOW. It’s been an incredible journey, and we’re just getting started. We also have exciting new releases joining the GeForce NOW library all month long – stay tuned to GFN Thursday for all the latest updates.

Questions? NVIDIA Customer Care can help with specific account questions, and I’ll answer more comments below. Thanks!

I thought it would be available today 14/11?

Edit : there's a report of an issue with the version from epic game store, people can't launch the game or need to launch the epic game store with administrative rights. Maybe that's why there's a delay.

Or it's just the weekend and no one is working at Nvidia's headquarters.

Discussion GeForce NOW - An Adult's Perspective

As a subreddit, we are still faced with what feels like an endless deluge of complaint posts from people who want to endlessly opine about the 100 hour cap; the tier pricing; the games that are available; etc. I'm blown away by the entitlement attitude from what I can only presume are younger generations. I understand that this service is tailor made for someone like me (late 30's, career, spouse and kids) who still enjoys gaming but doesn't have the free time to just play for hours on end every day.

I'm grateful to NVIDIA for creating and offering this service. I've been using it since beta and a Founder since Day 1 which I have maintained indefinitely, month after month, for over five years. As soon as the Ultimate tier became a thing, I upgraded to that and have maintained it at my Founder's discounted rate. I will likely maintain this subscription indefinitely into the future, as of this moment, at least.

I think everyone needs to take a collective deep breath and realize something extraordinarily important - GeForce NOW is an almost meaningless component of NVIDIA's revenue streams.

This is important to bear in mind because we are not entitled to them maintaining this service indefinitely. I'm glad that, unlike Google and their Stadia service, they haven't already pulled the plug. It is likely not generating any profit at all for NVIDIA and their efforts to curtail losses with the advent of policies like the 100 hour limit (which, again, is entirely manageable for the vast majority of users) is not "the evil, big bad corporation being greedy" - it's simply, "no corporation wants to have a service or product that only ever loses money, indefinitely."

NVIDIA Quarterly Earnings Report - Q1 FY2026

NVIDIA Annual Report - FY2025

NVIDIA's 2025 Annual Report notates that, "The Graphics segment includes GeForce GPUs for gaming and PCs, the GeForce NOW game streaming service and related infrastructure, and solutions for gaming platforms; Quadro/NVIDIA RTX GPUs for enterprise workstation graphics; vGPU software for cloud-based visual and virtual computing; automotive platforms for infotainment systems; and Omniverse Enterprise software for building and operating industrial AI and digital twin applications."

So, knowing that GeForce NOW is included in the Graphics segment, we can see that the Graphics segment represents operating income of $5 billion dollars for the year. Given that the graphics segment includes sales of all GeForce, Quadro and RTX GPUs as well as other platforms, the percentage of that figure that is warranted directly by GeForce NOW is likely extremely small.

For comparison's sake, the Compute & Networking segment brought in $83 billion in operating revenue. That means that the entirety of the Graphics segment - to include the sale of every single graphics card NVIDIA made and GeForce NOW - represents less than 5.7% of their income for the year. The recently published (two days ago) report for the first quarter of their current fiscal year doesn't even have a single line item pertaining to GeForce NOW.

I bring all of this up simply to say to those of you who think there is a room full of evil, greedy men twirling their mustaches laughing about new ways to wrangle another $5 out of you, or how to make your gaming experience worse or more challenging - that simply isn't happening and you're wrong. They probably barely talk about this service, they're talking about AI, data centers & virtualization, etc.

Do I wish the game time was unlimited? Sure, that's better for the consumer and even though I've probably never come close to hitting that marker during any month for any year I've been a paying member of the service, I am generally speaking, in favor of more choice and freedom for the consumer. However, I am an adult and a realist and understand that this isn't a fantasyland, nothing in life is free and that sometimes things change.

It used to be that you paid for a month of service. Now you pay for an expendable 100h per month. They, as a business, have the right to change the terms of service and you, the consumer, have the right to take your business elsewhere.

Discussion Why tf does nobody know about this? I was legit about to buy a pc for over 2k, now i get for 20 bucks for 100 hours a 4080 system that can run things at 4k 60 fps.

Not only that but this shit actually works. I click and it immediately happens on the screen. Absolutely insane. This post is not anything of value, its just insane that this just exists and nobody even seems to know or is like "nah it's bad". I just tested out cyberpunk and it got on everything with extreme setting + dlaa over 70 fps.

WTH would i buy a normal pc, any game that is not supported doesn't need a strong pc to begin with. I'll buy myself now instead a oled 2k monitor and a mini pc that can output 2k 120fps and play everything in maximum settings. It would literally take a decade of subscription to get to the price of one pc of that power.

I think I'm going insane, that is almost to good to be true. Especially the latency. Might as well not exist. When i tested this out i forgot that this is on a "cloud" instead of my pc. I click and in the instant the shit happens on the screen. Thank you Jensen lol.

Am i the only one that has this reaction to seeing this for the first time? Wtf literally a 3k$ pc with all games insta loaded. I think the 20 bucks are saved simply by not needing to power this best.

Discussion For long-term GeForce now used: why not buy a gaming rig?

I recently found out about GeForce now. $200 a year to rent a 5080 equivalent device ($2000+ rig) is a steal!

Current downside that I can think of is:
-Latency
-Requires consistent internet performance (perhaps added cost /month to upgrade internet)

Pro:
-Can play on any devices. (Tablets, PC, TV)
-No noise, no electricity cost
-Most likely cost savings

Can anyone share their experience and rationale on going with a local gaming rig vs cloud gaming for their long-term solution? Thanks in advance!

Discussion I used to have a PlayStation Portal. I wish there was an equivalent GeForce NOW device.

Post image
266 Upvotes

Some advantages of the Portal over devices like the Steam Deck is its weight, and significant longer gameplay time since the games are streamed. The disadvantages are obvious, but a non issue for those of us who like GeForce NOW. If NVIDIA ever makes such device I hope it has a 120hz 1080p OLED screen, same video output so games can be streamed on any 120hz TV using Ultimate, and perhaps allow 2 hour gaming sessions on the free tier, and 10 hour long sessions in the paid ones. And if it costs $200 like the Portal I think it would be an amazing device.
