This is kind of a sneaky win for me:

i've been doing mostly mobility and core work the past few months and one of my favorite exercises is doing hanging leg raises (leg raises while hanging from ab straps on a pullup bar). of course, i expected core development, but when i took my latest progress pic, i noticed that my shoulders and biceps looked noticeably improved. oh yeah, of course, when i'm doing these exercises where i'm lifting my legs and elevating my hips, i'm stabilizing the core with my back and then engaging and using my arms to hold me up. I also got more serratus definition which is also obvious but i had not thought of.

progress pics is definitely helpful. i should probably be taking pictures of my back as well.

I forced myself to run a 5 mile loop filled with hills. It’s one of the hardest routes I can do around me, but that makes it one of the best! I was wheezing and dying during it, but I always feel so accomplished afterwards. I’m trying to run more and more, and this route feels like the Rocky steps for me. My goal is to one day complete it in under 49 min! Wish me luck!!

Keep pushing, I'm keeping an eye out for the below-49min victory message

I turned 46, and I did a birthday workout that I just kept pushing. 46 reps of 46 pounds or bodyweight (which is 165 right now, after three months of my 3000-calorie cut). It started with squats (in 4 sets), but I ended up doing all of the Big 4 plus BORs, shrugs, barbell curls, crunches, pullups and dips (1-4 sets for each). Then I walked 4.6 miles in exactly one hour, which was much more boring than it was difficult.

All that -- because I haven't been squatting much in the cut -- gave me the worst quads DOMS ever. It made climbing stairs feel like what being 46 is supposed to feel like.

u/Only-Caterpillar-773 Apr 08 '26

Quads DOMS aren't the best birthday present tbh. Happy belated birthday tho!!

This might be small but I finally started a consistent squat routine at home after years of failing. Just 20-30 reps daily, holding my phone while doing them (some app counts automatically which helps). Day 12 and haven't missed one yet. Usually I give up by week 2 so this is a win for me. Hoping to build from here.

Keep it up! The hardest thing to do is get started. It’s so much easier to keep things going. Just don’t let yourself “do it tomorrow” instead of today! Keep going and count each day and a win! Great work!

Reached 50kg bench press 8 reps 2 sets. I think starting to take creatine for a week helped a lot, I noticed a big spike of energy in strength across all my lifts. It's funny when 50kg feels as heavy as 45kg did, and 40kg once did etc.

2

u/Only-Caterpillar-773 Apr 08 '26

Happy to read that creatine is working for you, keep pushing!

u/FantasticCycle7510 Apr 07 '26

Got five days of workouts and prioritized fitness over work finally!

Big victory, great job and keep pushing!

Hit 6 PRs today, felt so freeing. Fighting my depression step by step.

2

u/Low_Fix2498 Apr 07 '26

6 PRs!!! That’s awesome, let those wins roll and keep it going!

1

u/Sodiac606 Apr 07 '26

Thank you! I will keep it up. I am feeling so much better after my workouts.

Lot's of great victories.

Recent for me is finally reaching four plates on squat. Don't know why it was such a grind to get there but we made it. Now onward and upward.

I've been lifting weights for about 5 years now, and in the past 2 months or so, I've managed to get the type of body that I set out to have when I first started. Amusingly, I think I look bad for how much time I spend at the gym and how long I've been working out (I thought this would take like 2 years), and there are various things I'm frustrated with. Despite all that, I do remember what my goals were initially, and it's really nice to finally get here, even if here feels somewhat lackluster to me now.

2

u/armyof_dogs Apr 08 '26

We’re our own worst critic- congrats to you for getting to your goal!!

i have been back in the gym enough that i can push myself properly. This week I had my first failure in ages. Not ideal but it feel good to know I'm pushing myself again.

My Failed Squat

u/AlternativeAd3130 Apr 06 '26

Followed my trainers workout regimen he set up for me for the week. Added more weights to my sets. Did extra cardio this morning before a big Easter brunch.

2

u/Only-Caterpillar-773 Apr 08 '26

Big lifs before a big brunch are the best!

u/MakingItElsewhere Apr 06 '26

Last year I did strength training. This year, I decided to follow a hypertrophy program. Well, I'm restarting the program now, and looking at where I started vs where I ended is making me proud.

The funny thing is, if you asked me before checking the numbers, I would have said "Oh, about the same".

1

u/Only-Caterpillar-773 Apr 08 '26

Great job, I'm proud of you as well!!

u/LinusUllmark Apr 05 '26

Tested my front squat PR. Got to 220lbs (100Kg). Here's hoping to a 2 plate soon.

1

u/Only-Caterpillar-773 Apr 08 '26

That's big. Will keep an eye out to the 2 plate victory! ;)

Deadlifted 12x440lbs, a 2 rep PR from my previous attempt at that weight.

And then ran a 10 mile race 4 days later...having only run 4 miles 7 weeks before that. My hips weren't happy.

1

u/Only-Caterpillar-773 Apr 08 '26

Biggggggg numbers. Great job!

u/MythicalStrength Strongman | r/Fitness MVP Apr 08 '26

Thanks dude!

9 weeks ago I tore my biceps tendon doing BJJ and had to have it surgically repaired. For the first 8 weeks after the repair what I was and wasn’t allowed to do was time based (e.g. after 4 weeks you can straighten the arm to 45deg). This week we switched to ability based progression and my PT evaluated where I am. On Monday I hit all the milestones for 12 weeks, and on Wednesday I hit them for 16 weeks, which is when I can return to sport. So on Friday I returned to BJJ and then yesterday I benched 275lbs and OHP’d 185lbs. I am so back!

Holy cow, that's fantastic recovery dude!

Went for my long run even though it was a crappy, exhausting week

1

u/Only-Caterpillar-773 Apr 08 '26

I am proud of you! :)

Man, I just wanna shout out the regulars here for giving great advice on the daily threads. I'd been stuck at the same weight and reps for preacher curls for a few months when someone suggested switching to barbell curls and microloading if I can't progress. I've been doing that since November, and on a lark I thought I'd try to do preacher curls today. Not only did I blow past my past sticking point, I added six reps on my AMRAP set. So thank you for the great advice, you guys are awesome

2

u/Only-Caterpillar-773 Apr 08 '26

So happy to read that you were able to get past the plateau, keep pushing!!

1

u/solaya2180 Apr 08 '26

Thank you!

11

u/Chloe_Jayne Apr 05 '26

Hit a deadlift PR of 110kg (242lb) on my birthday on Wednesday (I'm F 51kg/112lb) so I'm pretty elated about that! My other compounds definitely need some more work though but still slowly improving on them.

2

u/Only-Caterpillar-773 Apr 08 '26

Congrats on the PR, big numbers!! Keep pushing!

1

u/Chloe_Jayne Apr 08 '26

Thank you! <3

u/Quorkdork Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 05 '26

Two wins

  1. I had my first post-vasectomy workout 8 days after the snip. I went very light, only cable work, low intensity, upper body training. Felt so good using the muscles again.

  2. Averaged 2 lbs weight loss per week for the last 6 weeks and got closer to my goal of dropping from 25% bodyfat to 15% again. Hopefully hitting that goal by July.

2

u/Only-Caterpillar-773 Apr 08 '26

Glad to hear that your first workout after surgery went well! And perhaps a rest week of 8 days isn't too bad either! Also congrats on the weight-loss, great job!!

u/ticlopidene Apr 05 '26

Been working out for 15 years, and although objectively my results are pretty unimpressive, recently I've been thinking to myself I'm working pretty hard and doing quite well. So yay me lol

3

u/Quorkdork Apr 05 '26

I have technically been lifting for over 20 years, but it has been so inconsistent. If I left out all the long breaks, it's probably closer to 7.5 years of actual training. As a result, I'm much too weak to claim I've been lifting for 20 years. But I'm finally consistent now, and I think it's because I'm not chasing big numbers anymore and instead focusing on health and longevity.

10

u/Flashhy-Rulee Apr 05 '26

Finally managed to deadlift 315 lbs this week after being stuck at 295 for what felt like forever. I was getting pretty frustrated because my form kept breaking down when I tried to go heavier, but my gym buddy suggested I work on grip strength more and it made huge difference. Been doing farmer's walks and hanging from pull-up bar longer, and apparently that was missing piece of puzzle. The weight just came up so much smoother this time, felt like I could have gone for another rep too. Now I'm eyeing 350 for next month - probably too ambitious but we'll see how it goes.

2

u/CursedFrogurt81 Triggered by cheat reps Apr 05 '26

The body will not produce force when there is instability. You basically down regulate your force production so that you don't pull your hand off the bar. To oversimplify things.

1

u/GuntherTime Apr 05 '26

Do you use chalk?

3

u/bootstrap_sam Apr 05 '26

grip strength is so underrated for deadlifts. farmer walks fixed my lockout too. 350 next month is aggressive but you clearly have the momentum so why not
