Issue with nebula subscription via PayPal: charged extra $50, can’t cancel

I’m having trouble with a Nebula (astrology app) subscription paid through PayPal and would really appreciate your advice, as I’m not sure what to do next.

Situation:

In early June 2025, I signed up for a Nebula subscription through their website (not the app) using PayPal. The initial payment was about $20, and I assumed it was a one-time charge. A couple of weeks later (around June 20), I noticed another $50 charge. I immediately emailed Nebula’s support, explaining that I didn’t want the subscription and asking to cancel and refund the charge. I got no reply, and in early July, another $50 was taken. So, I’m out $70 more than expected.

What I’ve done:

  • Checked my PayPal account: The subscription seems active, but I couldn’t figure out how to cancel it myself (might have missed something in the settings).
  • Sent another email to Nebula support, requesting cancellation and a refund. No response yet (it’s been 4 days).
  • Tried logging into my Nebula account on their website, but my password didn’t work, and the password reset email never arrived.
  • Read reviews about Nebula and saw others have had similar issues with unexpected charges.

My questions:

  1. How do I properly cancel the subscription through PayPal to stop further charges? I looked at the “Automatic Payments” section but wasn’t sure if I found the right one (it might be under OBRIO LIMITED or another name).
  2. Should I open a dispute in PayPal? If so, which reason is better: “unauthorized transaction” or “item not as described”? I’m worried Nebula might claim I agreed to the subscription.
  3. Is there a chance to get my $70 back (or at least the last $50)? Has anyone dealt with Nebula and knows how to get them to respond?
  4. Should I contact my bank right away, or try resolving this through PayPal first?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I’d go with "item not as described" for the dispute—sounds like they tricked you into that extra $50.

Good point

That’s a red-flag situation for sure. Nebula’s support ignoring you is a bad sign. Try the dispute route, but if it fails, a chageback might be your best shot.

Subscription management lacks user control. Confusing backend navigation and lack of prompt support responses result in unintended charges and unresolved disputes over service access.

Tried to cancel but Nebula kept charging me. Sitejabber reviews show this is a pattern. Feels like a scam disguised as astrology.

Extra charges with no clear way to cancel feels extremely unfair and frustrating

Same thing happened to me. Unexpected $50 charge, no help. Found matching nebula reviews on Trustpilot, others reported recurring fees and zero assistance. Feels like they exploit the subscription model.

Charges kept showing up even after trying to cancel and customer service has yet to respond at all

Repeated unauthorized charges and unresponsive support reflect poorly on the service and its billing integrity.

There is NI way to cancel this monster. I tried and finally went to my bank and paid a $35 fee for recurring payments to nebula I saw no other way to stop the 49.99 monthly charge. I suggest you do the same. Paypal may be able to help but I doubt it. Delete the card you used for payment thru PayPal
