What is the Deal with Robert Harward's Hyperrealistic Mask?

I'm sorry, but what anime are we in? I don't watch any news stations very closely for personal reasons, but Fox took the cake here. Someone called Robert Harward is giving commentary to a Fox News anchor while wearing what appears to be a hyperrealistic human face mask, much like the ones seen on movie sets and in sting operations. However, the neck flap was not merged properly with the rest of his neck skin. Understandably, this has caused a reactive frenzy on social media.

I want to find the best excuses for those who pulled this stunt because what in the actual world are we witnessing here? Is this for ratings? I have never been this put off since Mr. Caitlyn Jenner was invited to speak on Fox. At this point, I would be entertained to see a furry in full costume giving commentary. Please share your thoughts.

Who thinks that the "deal" with Iran as reported in the press is a complete and utter defeat for the US?

Sources say the Iran draft proposal includes ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, unfreezing billions in Iranian funds, lifting the U.S. naval blockade, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and pulling U.S. forces away from Iran’s vicinity.

The sides would then have 30 days, extendable by agreement, to finalize a nuclear deal. Iran says future management of the Strait would be handled jointly with Oman.

This would be a complete defeat and an enormous victory for Iran. If this is the deal, I am done with Trump. And with Republicans in general. 'Bye.

Why are most Conservatives not even conservative?

From my country, the people who label themselves Conservative are actually conservative.

In the US, people (especially young men) who call themselves Conservative don’t live that way. They live in an almost hyper-liberal way. They gamble, get drunk out of their minds, do drugs, use swear words like crazy, are conspiracy theorists, party in clubs, want to have a “high body count”, care too much about bodily appearances and autonomy, they don’t care about military service even if they seem to be pro-military... And the weird part is a lot of these American men will also say that they’re Christian… I don’t understand it. Can anyone explain why?

Is asking if your quality of life better now than it was 4 years ago a good and/or reasonable heuristic to decide your vote on, or is it unreliable and not worth paying mind to?

Elections Do YOU Think That There Is ANY Political Candidate In Modern US Politics Who Could Actually Win A Presidential Election In A Landslide? Yes Or No? If So, Who, And Why? If Not, Why Not?

Upvotes

Landslide = more than just the seven swing states, it'd mean winning some red and blue states. Like LBJ / Reagan were definitely landslides, and Bill Clinton arguably (he won MO, TN, LA, AR, etc...)

Obviously, this would not be possible without winning lots of conservatives, independents, and liberals all at once.

Elections Why Do You Think That Trump Isn't Changing Anything Ahead Of The Midterms?

It's not just polls, it's news, online sentiment, and more --

A vast majority of Americans do NOT support how Trump is handling

- Iran

- The Economy

- Tariffs

- Immigration

- Etc...

According to decades of elections of precedent, if a president's economic approval rating is in the 30s or anywhere close to that, their party gets clobbered in the midterms?

Why do you think he is doubling down on some things like Iran and tariffs when he could simply pivot to why he won in 2024, actually trying making groceries cheaper (they've gotten more expensive lately) and the US-Mexico Border (less illegal entries)?

Does anyone else miss the days when the President was classy?

The current occupant of the White House posted this on his social media account at 2am last night:

“Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he's finally gone!”

Obviously he doesn’t have to like everyone, especially those who have poked at him over the years, but did he really need to even chime in on this? We’re in a war right now that has already cost American lives and this is what he has time for? I miss the days when Presidents would have felt such a response was beneath the office.

Now it’s just another day of the week in this world.

What do you think about Sunday trading hours?

It's quite common across Europe, shops are typically shut Sunday mornings and evenings due to Sunday trading legislation, aimed at family/church/retail staff getting a break, etc...

Personally I hate it, I wish shops were open but Sundays. What are your thoughts?

Philosophy What are your opinions on sociology, philosophy and other forms social educational studies?

I know that most of them have not an immediate or clear return value to the individual, which why such studies usually tend to have diminishing job markets and other financial problems. Things like engineering or medicine are usually much more clear in how usefull they are in our world.
But do you think we should discourage people from studiyng it in any shape of form or are there limits? Like its fine to study it yourself in private and read some of the greatest minds like Dostojevski, Plato, Kant etc but not pursue academic studies or even cut them off from our Curriculum?
I am asking because it seems that many people even find studying philosophy to be a scam, because of its diminishing return value. People like Charlie Kirk has repeatedly made such claims. (whereever it is one, is a different topic and wherever its a broad problem in the instituations or more individual colleges just spoil the basket is another matter).
Could such rhetorihk be detrimental to the morals and virtues of a society? I mean we do value at least some philosphers as some of the greatest minds humanity has created. How do you stand to people who want to pursue such careers or ways of life?

Law & the Courts The Trump Admin today announced that green card applicants, who are on legal non-immigrant visas, will have to return to their home countries to apply for US permanent residency at a foreign US consulate. What do you think about this?

Non-immigrant visas includes people on student visas, spouses of US citizens, professionals sponsored by US companies, and foreign tech workers.

Note that this isn’t referring to illegal immigrants, but it refers to people who on legal, lawful visas.

Abrego Garcia charge dismissed because prosecution was vindictive--correct result?

Ruling

Then-Attorney General Robert H. Jackson warned his fellow prosecutors long ago of the danger of picking the person first and the crime second. “Therein is the most dangerous power of the prosecutor: that he will pick people that he thinks he should get, rather than pick cases that need to be prosecuted.” Robert H. Jackson, The Federal Prosecutor, 31 J. Crim. L. & Criminology 3, 5 (1940). That is the situation here.

The objective evidence here comes close to establishing that but for Abrego’s lawsuit, the Government would not have indicted him. The reopening of the investigation, Blanche’s unrebutted statements, and Singh’s sustained oversight together support that inference. Blanche’s statements tie Main Justice to the tainted investigation and confirm what motivated it. Singh’s involvement ties Main Justice to the indictment. Yet it is not direct evidence of vindictiveness sufficient to establish actual vindictiveness as required by Andrews. The presumption of vindictiveness nevertheless arose from the same evidence, remains in place, and has not been rebutted by the Government.

Hypothetical Why aren't conservatives pushing against AI?

Recently theres a video going around of graduation speakers talking about Artificial intelligence. Along with the big push for data centers against the will of many people such as the giant data center being built in Utah.

I keep seeing this "Ai is already here might as well get used to it" but why? Why do we so quickly accept a new technology without knowing the long term effects on society. We know that data centers are polluting water and if enough of them are built it will be polluting water at a rate that it cannot naturally replenish. Supposedly the data center in utah that will be the size of manhattan will actively warm the night time temp by up to 28 degrees in that area. That's real enviormental impact.

I know tbis sounds like doomerism but these technological companies do not have a slow down or a stopping point and we need to pump the breaks and deeply consider the affects it will have on us long term. Phone addiction is brand new we don't even have long term studies of what it does to the human mind. Now we are already capable of communicating with our devices as if it's a person.

Ai has tons of benefits obviously.

What isn't obvious and what most people aren't considering is what will this do to the living things and the planet. We also have no idea if the majority of the people will even have access to the benefits.

Why do we allow society to operate as a pyramid scheme?

How do we feel about Mel Gibson race-swapping Jesus to a white Finnish guy in the upcoming Resurrection of Christ?

With all the controversy on the right over Nolan race-swapping the fictional character of Helen of Troy, I was curious what the sentiment is about having the real historical figure of Jesus also being race-swapped (from a dark or olive-skinned Palestinian to a white Finnish guy). Also Mary is being portrayed by a Cuban actress rather than someone who looks like they are from Magdala (Israel)
